Hello, I’m Helen - I run Cake and Crayons! I started this business in 2021 after the birth of my second daughter, who came right at the start of the first UK lockdown in the Covid pandemic. It was a strange and challenging time for our family, as it was for many. I used drawing to carve out little moments of calm for myself, but also to document the lives of my children.
Those drawings changed a lot over time - they started as very illustrative images of children and gradually my style has developed and I enjoyed drawing nature, landscapes and people.
If you were to ask me now what my style is, I would say it is defined by bright colours, hand-painted details and a love of joyful, happy designs.
My designs are a genuine extension of myself: they stem from my love of nature, people and, most of all, putting colours together.
Each item I make is intended as a token of appreciation for the relationships we celebrate, the beautiful world we live in and the special occasions we remember.
I create designs that I hope will be used to express love, gratitude, and encouragement.
When I'm not designing you can find me playing with my two wonderful children, hanging out with my friends, drinking tea and eating cake!
